Permission to Rest: Building a Coaching Business That Honors Your Capacity During the Holidays
Let’s talk about something that no one told us in residency or med school: YOU’RE ALLOWED TO REST.
Especially during the holidays.
For doctors turned entrepreneurs, the end of the year can bring a strange mix of pressure and guilt. You’re trying to plan for Q1, maybe catch one more client before New Year’s, or figure out how to show up on social media while still spending time with your family. It can feel like your business needs your full bandwidth right now, just when you’re running on empty.
But what if your business didn’t require you to grind through December?
What if you could rest and make money?
Why Doctors Struggle with Rest (Even Outside the Hospital)
You spent years being trained to override your body’s signals.
That 3am trauma patient didn’t care if you were tired. You showed up. That chart didn’t care if you had a headache or needed a snack. You finished it. That attending didn’t care if you were grieving, burnt out, or overwhelmed. You smiled and kept going.
So when you leave medicine and start your coaching business, it’s no surprise that you bring that same mindset with you.
But the truth is: running a business requires a different nervous system than practicing medicine.
Capacity Is a CEO Skill
You don’t need more motivation, you need more capacity.
Capacity isn’t just about time or energy. It’s about how you treat yourself. What you allow. What you refuse. What you choose to prioritize.
In my business, especially around the holidays, I ask myself:
What would feel light to offer this month?
How can I serve my people without sacrificing my peace?
What boundaries do I need to enforce to protect my energy and my joy?
Sometimes that means offering an on-demand workshop instead of hosting another live event. Sometimes it’s rerunning an offer that’s already built instead of creating something brand new. Sometimes it’s just saying, “I’m not launching anything until January,” and letting that be enough.
Your Business Can Still Grow When You’re Resting
If you’ve been building your business the way I teach, using offers that solve real problems, content that connects, and systems that support you, then you don’t have to perform for every sale.
The people who are ready to work with you won’t suddenly forget about you just because you took two weeks off.
In fact, showing them that you value rest might be the most powerful example you could ever set.
This Season, Choose to Do It Differently
If you’re craving a different December, one where your business honors your humanity, not just your hustle, give yourself permission to rest.
You don’t need to prove anything. You don’t need to finish the year in a frenzy. You just need to stay connected to your mission and your well-being.
Trust me: that’s what sustainable success looks like.
