Navigating Marriage and Medicine: The Feminine Pivot of Dr. Kome Oseghale
She Did Everything Right—Until Her Body Said Stop
We don’t talk enough about what it costs to be the strong one.
To carry the weight of your relationship.
To show up for your patients, your kids, your partner—and still feel like no one’s showing up for you.
This week on The Docs Get Money Podcast, I had the honor of sitting down with Dr. Kome Oseghale, a pediatrician and relationship coach who knows that story all too well.
Kome went from a childhood in Nigeria (with 31 siblings, yes..31. Not a typo), to building a picture-perfect life in the United States. She had the degrees, the marriage, the kids, the white coat—and still, she was drowning in resentment towards her husband. She carried all of the weight on her shoulders to “do it all”.
And then a literal heart attack in her 30s became her wake-up call.
This episode is her story of choosing herself and healing her relationship with her husband in the process.
From Burnout and Breakdown to Self-Worth and Softness
Dr. Kome didn’t “fixed” her marriage and redefined the way she moved through it.
She stopped over-functioning, stopped begging to be seen, and stopped holding everything together just so things wouldn’t fall apart.
She invested in her own growth. She embraced feminine energy. She learned how to receive—and how to be respected.
And in doing so, she changed the entire dynamic of her marriage without yelling, nagging, or demanding.
Now she’s coaching other women physicians through the same transformation—helping them prioritize self-care, emotional safety, and real connection in relationships that have been running on empty.
This Is About Marriage and Liberation
We also talked about the role of culture and expectations, especially as Black immigrant women in medicine. We’re trained to perform, suppress, and survive. How many of us are praised for how much we can endure.
But what if we stopped glorifying endurance?
What if we honored softness, rest, and intuitive leadership?
Kome didn’t abandon her medical career—she expanded her identity. She built a profitable coaching business rooted in healing, community, and empowerment. She chose a path that allows her to thrive personally and professionally—without sacrificing her peace.
