From ER Doctor to Life-Changing Coach: Dr. Biosha Jones’ Journey of Authenticity, Resilience, and Entrepreneurship

Have you ever felt like your workplace, no matter how prestigious, doesn't allow you to be your authentic self? For Dr. Biosha Jones, an emergency physician turned life coach, that feeling was the catalyst for a powerful transformation.

In this week's episode of The Docs Get Money Podcast, I had the privilege of reconnecting with Dr. Biosha Jones—a powerhouse in the making. She’s an ER doctor by day and a dynamic life coach by passion. Without any prior business experience, she launched a coaching program, Be Out Loud, and earned over $12,000 in just a few months. Her journey proves that with determination, authenticity, and a little coaching, you can turn your experiences into a thriving business.

Breaking Free from the System

Dr. Biosha’s story is one many high-achieving professionals can relate to. She’s a Black woman in medicine—a space where representation is scarce and authenticity often feels like a luxury.

Graduating into a pandemic as part of the class of 2020, Dr. Biosha found herself battling not only the physical demands of the job but also the emotional toll of being “the only” in many spaces. Her experience of suppressing her individuality, like not being able to wear her colorful hairstyles or express her vibrant personality, drove her to the brink of burnout.

But instead of staying stuck, Dr. Biosha took her power back. She realized that her struggles weren’t unique—they were shared by countless others in marginalized communities. And she decided to do something about it.

Why Coaching?

When Dr. Biosha and I connected, she came to me with a desire to write a book—a way to share her story. But as we talked, I encouraged her to start changing lives right away through coaching. She didn’t need to wait to make an impact.

With Be Out Loud, Dr. Biosha created a six-month coaching program aimed at helping women and people of color reclaim their authenticity in high-pressure environments. Her work empowers clients to navigate workplace challenges, rediscover themselves, and show up unapologetically as the bold, brilliant people they are.

The Vulnerability of Entrepreneurship

Starting a coaching business wasn’t without its challenges. Dr. Biosha grappled with self-doubt—wondering if she was “ready” or “qualified” to help others. But through reflection and coaching, she realized that her lived experiences and authenticity were exactly what made her powerful.

“You can do hard things,” Dr. Biosha said during our conversation. “The stories we tell create the impact we’re meant to have.”

And she’s right. Her willingness to embrace vulnerability—to share her struggles and triumphs—has been one of her greatest strengths. It’s also what makes her an incredible coach.

Lessons for Aspiring Coaches

If you’re a doctor or healthcare professional considering a non-clinical side hustle, take inspiration from Dr. Biosha. Her journey underscores a few key truths:

  1. Your experiences are enough: You don’t need a mountain of credentials to start making a difference.

  2. Vulnerability is a strength: Sharing your authentic story helps you connect with people who need your help.

  3. Coaching is about transformation: It’s not just about hitting revenue goals—it’s about helping others reach their full potential while building a life that fulfills you.
