Doc, Watch Your Mouth: How Your Words Are Blocking Your Bag
Your business isn’t taking off the way you want it to because your mouth is blocking your money.
Yes, you read that right.
What you say out loud—about yourself, your abilities, and your business—might be the very thing standing between you and that six-figure bag.
I had a conversation recently with a fellow physician friend that made me think about this.
She’s a powerhouse—an incredibly talented surgeon crushing it in her practice.
Yet when I asked her why she hadn’t gone off on her own and built her own practice, her response was, “I’m not an entrepreneur.”
Hold up. Sis… WHAT?
In this episode of Docs Get Money, I’m breaking down how the words you speak over yourself can literally stunt your growth, your wealth, and your business success. So if you’ve been saying things like “I’m not a business person,” “I don’t know how to make money outside of medicine,” or “I could never be successful in business”—this episode is for you. It’s time to watch your mouth and change the way you talk about your future.
The Story That Inspired This Episode
I recently caught up with a physician friend of mine who’s been working in a highly specialized surgical practice for about six years. She’s brought in millions of dollars of revenue, built relationships with hospitals, and single-handedly grown the practice to what it is today. Yet, despite being the heartbeat of that practice, she’s been dealing with a difficult business partner (and fellow surgeon) who’s made her professional life miserable.
She told me she wanted out but quickly followed it up with, “I’m not an entrepreneur.”
Sis… are you serious? This woman has literally built and scaled a multimillion-dollar business under someone else’s name and still believes she’s not capable of running her own practice.
Why?
Because the words coming out of her mouth have her trapped in a box.
Why Your Words Are Blocking Your Money
I see this ALL the time with doctors, especially women of color.
We’ve been conditioned to believe that the only way to build a successful career is to stay in the hospital, clock our hours, and hope that one day the system will reward us.
But the system wasn’t built for you to win.
And if you keep repeating things like:
“I’m not an entrepreneur.”
“I don’t know how to sell.”
“I’m not cut out for business.”
…then guess what? You will manifest that reality.
Your words have power, and when you speak limitations over yourself, your business (and your bag) will reflect that.
What You Should Be Saying Instead
The first thing I told my friend was this: Girl, you already ARE an entrepreneur.
She just didn’t realize it because she had spent so long working under someone else's business that she didn’t recognize her own power.
Sound familiar?
If you have the skill set to build someone else's business, you have the skill set to build your own.
The only difference is the way you speak about yourself and your capabilities.
So here’s your homework:
Stop Saying:
❌ “I’m not a business person.”
❌ “I don’t know how to sell.”
❌ “I’m not an entrepreneur.”
Start Saying:
✅ “I already have the skills to grow a profitable business.”
✅ “I’m capable of making six-figures outside of clinical medicine.”
✅ “I can create wealth for myself, not just for my employer.”
Your Mouth is Manifesting Your Future
One thing I’ve learned in my entrepreneurial journey is that success is 80% mindset and 20% strategy. Yes, I can teach you how to build a coaching business, launch a midterm rental business, or start consulting—but none of that will work if you don’t first change the way you talk about and to yourself.
If you keep saying, “I’m not a business person,” you’ll continue to attract failure. If you say, “I’m not an entrepreneur,” you’ll never take action on the ideas that could make you millions. But when you flip that script and start speaking life over your business, everything changes.
You’re already capable.
You already have the skills.
You just need to speak that reality into existence.
